Hillarys successfully implement Suite on HANA (S/4 HANA) Birchman Press Release.
Birchman are pleased to announce that Hillarys Blinds has successfully upgraded and migrated to SAP Business Suite on HANA, a major milestone on its journey to S/4 HANA.
Hillarys are already seeing the benefit of HANA in much improved response times and run times across BW, CRM and ERP. And, this provides the foundation to further major benefits through the adoption of the ‘Simple’ transactions allowing the solution to be more agile in the support of an ever changing business.
Julian Bond, Head of ICT at Hillarys explains, “When SAP was originally implemented Hillarys was a relatively straightforward business focused on manufacturing and fitting made to measure blinds. Now we are a multi-channel retailer with a vertically integrated supply chain that has expanded its product portfolio to now include blinds, shutters, awnings, curtains and carpets. We believe that S/4 HANA is a key enabler of our digital transformation, allowing us to be more agile and responsive to the changing opportunities and threats if our commercial landscape.”
Hillarys are already planning the deployment of selected Fiori Apps.
Planned carefully to minimise risk in a business that processes 11,000 orders per week and supplies 31,000 made to measure products each week. SAP Business Warehouse was migrated to HANA before Christmas, CRM was migrated in January and the all-important SAP ERP ECC5 was upgraded and migrated in February. The total elapsed time for upgrading all three system was less than six months.
“When you look at the amount of technical change we have gone through; HP-UX to SUSE Linux, Oracle to HANA, non-unicode to Unicode, HP to Huawei, upgrading from ECC5 to ECC6 EP7 and delivering all the systems in a virtual environment we set ourselves a very aggressive timeframe.
To make this happen, Birchman worked alongside our own team providing trusted advice, co-project management and technical consultancy” said Bond.
Ninety percent of Hillarys orders are received electronically and the over 1000 Hillarys Advisors work evenings and weekends. It was vital that downtime on the ERP system was minimised and connection to the other systems including SAP Process Integration was re-established in the most efficient way.
Birchman and Hillarys agreed on a phased implementation which started with migration of BW and CRM. The ERP process was more complex due to the most dimensions of change and ERP’s position at the heats of the SAP landscape. During the BW and CRM go-lives the team also rehearsed the ERP migration and upgrade process.
Birchman is one of the most experienced SAP HANA partners in Europe; which started with certifying consultants in SAP Walldorf in 2011 and support HANA ramp-up, through to multiple HANA migration and implementation projects and now more recently the migration and implementation of S/4 HANA Simple Finance.
